BusPlus Transit Improvements

BusPlus Transit Improvements

CDTA's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) program, branded ‘BusPlus’, provides a faster and higher quality transit service to customers throughout the Capital Region.  The new Purple Line will include transit improvements like Transit Signal Priority (TSP), queue jump lanes, and segments of dedicated bus only lanes (UAlbany Gardenway). Queue jump lanes with 'Bus Only' traffic signals allow buses to easily and safely get ahead of cars in congested intersections. Traffic signals with TSP equipment detect when a bus is approaching an intersection and makes sure the bus gets a green light. The UAlbany Gardenway dedicated bus lane segment provides the quick and convenient way to travel to, from, and between destinations on the state university campus. These improvements, along with limited stops, reduce travel times and increase efficiency of CDTA's Bus Plus service.

CDTA has successfully built and deployed these types of transit improvements throughout the Capital Region. As part of the Blue Line project, rolled put in November 2020, a queue jump lane with a Bus Only Signal was installed at 4th Street and Congress Street in Troy.
