80 Broadway Construction
CDTA is excited to announce the redevelopment of 80 Broadway into a fully upgraded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station along the BusPlus Blue Line. This project will transform the existing stop at 80 Broadway into a modern, efficient station, strengthen connections to downtown Albany, expand mobility options for State employees, and support regional sustainability goals.
As part of CDTA’s Blue Line, key upgrades include a unique one-way loop design for seamless bus movement, upgraded BRT stations and a new bus-only exit. Intersection and signal upgrades have been carefully designed to manage traffic while improving flow and safety, and is integrated with the existing bicycle lane on Broadway. Northbound buses turn left into the new station area and use the inside part of the new platform island to pick up and drop off riders, then proceed back onto Broadway with the help of a modified signal. Southbound buses use a bus bay along the outside part of the platform island and merge back onto Broadway. New amenities such as heated sidewalks, ADA-compliant curbing, and upgraded station seating will enhance rider comfort and accessibility, highlighting CDTA’s commitment to equitable and reliable transit. As part of these changes, Route #524 will be consolidated, encouraging riders to utilize the 80 Broadway station and BRT services.
The new 80 Broadway Station is located at an existing OGS employee lot which currently has capacity for over 600 parking spaces and the potential to expand. Those employees will park and use CDTA buses to reach their jobs in Downtown Albany and at other State Office Buildings. Providing greater transit priority features and more passenger amenities will improve their trips and complements CDTA's successful Universal Access Program. Through partnerships with businesses, schools, and organizations like OGS, the program provides employees, students, and residents with free access to multimodal transit options. By encouraging greater use of public transit, the program helps reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips and supports sustainability initiatives.
Construction on the 80 Broadway station is already underway and is expected to be completed by Spring 2025.
