Crossgates Mall Roundabout

The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) will be constructing a new roundabout for improved access to the I-87 Northway as part of its Purple Line BusPlus Project. This major infrastructure investment involves the construction of a roundabout, which will replace the current signalized intersection. The project also includes the installation of new landscaping, repaving, and restriping around the area’s largest retail center. These improvements will help with the flow of buses in and around Crossgates Mall and future developments in the area.

Roundabouts have several benefits compared to intersections with stop signs or traffic lights. The primary benefit is that they reduce overall delays because vehicles no longer have to stop. They also reduce the number crashes, and severity of crash related injuries because vehicles travel through roundabouts at slower speeds.  

Construction on the project will be completed in a phased approach to provide the least amount of disruption to the community and daily traffic patterns. The first phase of construction will begin on April 3rd while the fifth and final phase is scheduled to wrap up at the end of July.
