80 Broadway BusPlus Station Construction Complete

80 Broadway BusPlus Station Construction Complete

CDTA is excited to share that construction has just wrapped up on the brand new BusPlus Blue Line station at 80 Broadway. The station now features upgrades to the existing stops which serves a major park and ride used by state employees, and others, commuting to Downtown Albany, complementing partners' ability to access more of the region with CDTA’s Universal Access Program. The improvements made have upgraded pedestrian connectivity, transit efficiency, and the overall experience for CDTA customers.

Since the last update, many upgrades have been installed to the pedestrian environment including new crosswalks and sidewalks which have been added to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety while waiting for services to arrive. Additionally, new landscaping was done to make the station more welcoming aesthetically.

One of the most significant additions to the station is the Queue Jump Lane with a special bus-only signal at the intersection of Broadway and Simmons Lane, which will now give southbound buses priority when pulling out of 80 Broadway. In addition, a new traffic signal has been installed on the north side of the station. Northbound buses will turn left into the new station to pick up and drop off CDTA customers on the inside of the new platform before merging back onto Broadway. These operational changes will improve transit service for the Blue Line by reducing idling and travel times.

The customer experience is also improved at 80 Broadway because of the station redesign that offers a unique layout that northbound riders no longer must cross Broadway to get back to the parking lot at the end of their trip. The upgraded station also includes standard BusPlus amenities, such as bus shelters with lights, heated sidewalks, and solar paneling to help power both.

The completion of this project contributes to CDTA’s strong Universal Access group ridership program. Through partnerships with businesses, schools, and organizations like the Office of General Services (OGS), the program provides employees, students, and residents with free access to multimodal transit options, including BusPlus. Adjacent to the 80 Broadway station is an over 600-space parking lot which will now serve as a park & ride hub for state employees and others looking to get to downtown Albany using the BusPlus Blue Line.

Buses will begin using the new 80 Broadway Station later this month. For more BusPlus Blue Line service information, visit www.cdta.org/brt!
