80 Broadway - Construction Update
CDTA is excited to share an update on the progress of 80 Broadway, a new, fully upgraded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station along the BusPlus Blue Line. This project will transform the existing stop at 80 Broadway into a modern, efficient station that will strengthen connections to downtown Albany for state workers, and others, who use the existing park and ride at this location. Construction began last fall with work being done on creating a new ADA-compliant platform, installing heated sidewalks with snowmelt pads, and adding signal modifications for buses.
Since the start of the construction season, underground wiring, stormwater drainage structures, and thick concrete bus pads have all been installed as the project nears completion. One of the most recent additions has been the CDTA BusPlus pylons, which house electrical wiring for the heated sidewalks and enhance wayfinding to the station.
The remaining work includes paving, finishing the curbing and sidewalk connections, adding road signs and traffic signal poles, and installing two new BRT stations. The stations will be wired with electrical features to support the infrastructure for solar panels and heated sidewalks, which will create a more efficient and comfortable experience for CDTA customers.
Once work is complete, the bus bay will be used by Southbound buses as they pick up and drop off customers on the new platform island before merging back onto Broadway. Newly installed traffic signal modifications will be used by Northbound buses allowing them to turn left into the new station, drop off and pick up customers on the inside of the new platform before merging back onto Broadway.
Construction is approximately 75% complete and is expected to wrap up by the end of fall.
