BusPlus Purple Line Expands with new Harriman East Station

CDTA is excited to share that construction has begun on two new stations for the BusPlus Purple Line. These new stations, located on each side of Campus Access Road, will improve transit access for thousands of New York State employees working at the Office of General Services, Department of Taxation and Finance, and Department of Corrections and Community Supervision at the W. Averell Harriman State Office Building Campus.

Construction began this summer on the new BRT station and surrounding pedestrian improvements. Each stop will feature ADA-compliant platforms, the signature BusPlus shelters, heated sidewalks with snowmelt pads, branded pylons, and dedicated pullout lanes that allow buses to stop without disrupting traffic. Sidewalks, crosswalks, and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) will improve pedestrian safety and connectivity throughout the area.

Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of fall. Once complete, the new station will officially join the BusPlus Purple Line, offering a more efficient and comfortable experience for customers while strengthening connections to downtown Albany, the Crossgates Mall, and UAlbany’s Uptown Campus.
