2023 CDTA Construction Season
The 2023 construction season is up and running! Last season, CDTA installed new pylons and laid the flat work at BusPlus stations as a part of the Red Line Refresh and Purple Line development. Additionally, significant progress was made on the UAlbany Gardenway and the new connection at Brevator Street - both of these projects will bring major transit and pedestrian improvements to a key regional corridor. The public will see the completion of those projects, plus a new roundabout at Crossgates this construction season.
Purple Line construction is underway at Quail Westbound and Allen Westbound. Sidewalk and pavement cementing has started for the new shelters. Please note that while under construction, certain stops may be temporarily relocated. Quail Westbound service will complete its drop-off and pick-up immediately before the construction site, and Allen Westbound has been moved to West Lawrence. Purple Line service is scheduled to start in late 2023, connecting Downtown Albany to Crossgates Mall.
Construction on the Crossgates Mall Roundabout has progressed quickly with Phase 1A completed and Phase 1B expected to be finished by May 16. With only three phases left, the project is on schedule with the estimated completion date of July 28th. To view the phasing plan click here.
Near the University at Albany Uptown Campus, the UAlbany Gardenway will undergo station improvements, final paving and striping, and landscaping. The new station will be located at the Campus Center stop and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.
Red Line station upgrades continue with pylons and shelter refurbishments among many enhancements. Village Center has installed the large visible Red Line branded pylon to serve as a unifying element to aid customers in identification, boarding, and transferring throughout the service area. West Mall, Colonie Center, New Karner, Crossgates Commons and SUNY Polytechnic Institute will receive pylons in the coming weeks.
