2024 Construction Season Wraps up with New Mobility Hubs

As the 2024 construction season draws to a close, CDTA is excited to near the completion of two new mobility hubs in the Capital Region—Liberty Square in Troy and Manning Boulevard in Albany. These projects reflect CDTA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing connectivity and accessibility for all users, while supporting multimodal transportation options.

Building on the success of the Gateway Mobility Hub in Schenectady, which was completed last season, the addition of these new mobility hubs brings the total to three in the region, offering seamless connections between public transit, bike share, and car share options.

Liberty Square, Troy

Located in Troy's Little Italy neighborhood at the corner of 4th and Liberty Street, construction is focused on improving the pedestrian experience and integrating the mobility hub into the existing streetscape. Design elements such as upgraded landscaping and seating were introduced to complement the surrounding developments. Safety improvements include a new traffic signal, upgraded sidewalks, crosswalks, and ADA curb ramps. Additionally, the installation of a bus-only lane and a new shelter will enhance travel time and improve the overall experience for CDTA customers. Multimodal options such as DRIVE Carshare and CDPHP Cycle! provide users with convenient alternatives. Construction at Liberty Square began in Spring 2024 and is expected to wrap up by Fall 2024.

Manning Boulevard, Albany

In Albany, CDTA partnered with the City and St. Peter's Hospital to create a mobility hub that serves the hospital and nearby developments. With St. Peter’s recently joining CDTA’s Universal Access program, the mobility hub is a valuable addition for employees commuting to and from work. Pedestrian safety was a priority, with enhancements including upgraded sidewalks, crosswalks, ADA curb ramps, and a landscaped median for pedestrian refuge. The installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) further increases crosswalk visibility and safety. The mobility hub also features new bus shelters and incorporates CDPHP Cycle! as part of its multimodal design. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of Fall 2024.
